v. 1.0 March 10, 2008 SG

[download the RTF version]

1. Open the track in your own iTunes.
2. On a PC, right mouse click over the track; On a Mac control click over the track
3. Select Get Info

4. Click on the Info tab to edit the metadata for this track. Something to understand going in, is that ID3 v2.x tags can contain Unicode text strings of up to 256 characters. That means your Title, Artist, Album, fields can be really long but the Comment tag may run out of characters. It tends to accommodate 2-3 sentences.

a. Name: enter a title. Use uppercase letters for the important words in the title
b. Artist : enter the presenter(s) name(s). We recommend only a person's name. Consistency is important, so if you plan to include personal titles, e.g., Dr., Prof., Assistant Professor, do so for everyone.
c. Album: enter the name for the podcast series. Use the same name for each track in the series.
d. Grouping: you can enter a special name related to this particular track. For instance, if the audio or video of this track is of a lecture from the 4th Annual Mel and Enid Zuckerman Health Lecture, put that in Grouping.
e. Comments: you want to include as much descriptive information as you can before you hit the 256 character limit. Include the date of the event. If you have more descriptive information about your track, put it in the Lyrics tag

f. Genre: select Podcast.
g. Year: enter the year of the event.

5. When you upload this file to iTunes U, be sure to browse to the one now located in your iTunes U folder. If you chose to have iTunes manage your files when you installed iTunes, here is where to look.

On a Mac:

in your harddisk > your Mac's username > Music > iTunes > Music > Album (what you named the album in your iTunes tag - see 4. c. above) or look in the Unknown Artist folder if you've not named the Album yet. Note: if it is a video, you may need to look for your file in a folder named Movies

On a PC:

C: > Documents & Settings > your PC's username > My Documents > My Music > iTunes > iTunes Music > Album (what you named the album in your iTunes tag - see 4. c. above) or look in the Unknown Artist folder if you've not named the Album yet. Note: if it is a video, you may need to look for your file in a folder named Movies
